Let's Honour You This Mother's Day
Well, Mother’s Day is here and I really hope you had the opportunity to relax a little. With 150 + hour work weeks, mandatory night shifts, breaks not guaranteed, and no sick days, we often wonder how we’re going to get through the day--or night.
We all want to be the best mom possible. We may spend hours trying to create veggie animals so that our kids will eat them, we stay up late cleaning so that everything is ready for the next day, we try our best to soothe a teething baby and get absolutely nowhere, and we often forget to take care of the most intricate part of our family, ourselves.
Today (May 8th) is Mother’s Day and for many of us, we get to do a little something for ourselves and maybe even have a few nice things done for us.
We need to take a little time for self-care beyond that. It’s probably the most important thing we can do for our family. We take on more than we could ever imagine, we give so much ourselves without asking for anything in return and somehow we keep everything running--even if it’s a trip through the drive through every once in awhile.
We, as moms are important. We are worth investing in ourselves. After all, if you aren’t well in your mind and body, how can we support our family.
I get that it may be hard to put yourself first so here are some ways that you can take care of yourself.
Reconnect your mind and body. Go into a quiet room, breathe and feel. Take notes of your breath, where is it coming from, how deep or shallow is your breath? Are you breathing from your diaphragm? Is your breathing in alignment? To function properly, we need our minds and our bodies working together. If they’re not, it’s time to get started.
Do your best to eat well. With the demands of every day, it’s hard to make time to sit and eat. Your body is incredible and deserves to be treated well every single day (there are exceptions of course!). Eating foods that are high in nutritional value will help you with energy levels and function better.
Get outside. Walking is probably the best thing you can do for your overall health. You can go around the block or go on a long hike--you can even take the kids with you!
